IFCO Supports Foodshare with Reusable Plastic Containers

Leading RPC Provider Continues Worldwide Responsibility Initiative through Support of Top Connecticut Food Bank.

TAMPA, Jun 19, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — IFCO SYSTEMS, the global leader in Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) for fresh products, today announced that it will provide containers to Foodshare, a Connecticut-based charity that targets hunger issues. Foodshare
( www.Foodshare.org ) will use the RPCs to transport produce and other grocery products from its facility in Bloomfield, Connecticut to about 300 partner locations in the greater Hartford area.

“The RPCs IFCO is providing will improve the productivity of Foodshare’s delivery system and reduce product damage while decreasing environmental impact. IFCO is proud of our new partnership with Foodshare and of the commitment we’ve made to supporting food banks throughout the world,” said Fred Heptinstall, President and General Manager IFCO SYSTEMS US.

Foodshare is the heart of greater Hartford’s fight against hunger, bringing together individuals and organizations to create effective solutions to end hunger in all 42 towns of Hartford and Tolland counties. Since 1982, Foodshare has sought to end hunger in this region. Working in partnership with other community leaders such as the United Way, End Hunger Connecticut! and 211 Infoline, Foodshare has the experience and is building the networks necessary to help make this vision a reality.

“The IFCO RPCs will help us improve the effectiveness of our delivery process, ensuring that the right produce and groceries get to needy families and individuals in the Hartford community in good condition when they need them. We’re also moving to a more environmentally-friendly system by replacing corrugate boxes with RPCs,” said Stephen Slipchinsky, Regional Market Project Manager, Foodshare.

As the market leader with more than 170 million RPCs in circulation worldwide, IFCO is the leading provider of reusable containers to the fresh food sector. IFCO handles all RPC logistics, from manufacturing to cleaning to re-entry into the supply chain. After retail use, IFCO RPCs are folded, collected and shipped back to one of IFCO’s service facilities, where they are sanitized and prepared for re-use.
