ORBIS CORPORATION’S ORBISHIELD PROVIDES SUPERIOR AUTOMOTIVE PART PROTECTION

Versatile and Durable Soft Foam Dunnage Material for Class A Surfaces

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – To address the unique challenges involved in the packaging of automotive Class A surface parts (mirrors, trim parts, etc) ORBIS Corporation, an international manufacturer of sustainable reusable packaging and an expert in supply chain optimization, has developed ORBIShield™ Dunnage—a material that is inherently protective and requires very little secondary processing before it’s converted into dunnage sets.

Created from soft foam, ORBIShield™ Dunnage is easily die-cut and is both flexible and versatile enough to create curved cells to support a wide variety of shapes and sizes. It provides the versatility to create rigid partitions which can support the weight of parts in a tote, while still having the flexibility needed to create curved cells for parts with unique geometry that are difficult to package with traditional materials.

Due to the specific foam material ORBIS has engineered, ORBIShield™ streamlines the dunnage design and fabrication process by simplifying die-cut and assembly operations. Since the material does not need to go through normal secondary operations such as lamination and edge stitching often required when using traditional materials to fabricate divider sets for Class A parts, the material does not present the risk of delaminating and/or breaking down like traditional materials.

Besides the superior protective properties that its soft foam surface provides, ORBIShield™ is ergonomically friendly and offers workers superior comfort when unloading parts from totes or bulk containers. It improves worker safety by protecting workers’ cuticles and fingertips since it does not have the sharp edges that are commonly found on corrugated dividers. The inclusion of the EcoPur™ additive allows ORBIShield™ to be biodegradable at the end of its service life and a more environmentally friendly option over other dunnage materials of its kind in the marketplace.

Additional benefits include:

  • Material is tan in color and available in 3 to 5mm thicknesses.
  • Simplified assembly eliminates secondary operations and reduces the risk of dunnage material breakdown over time due to lamination, glue or edge stitching.
  • Environmentally friendly, due to the use of EcoPure technology, which accelerates the biodegradation of plastic products.
  • Tested and proven Class A part protection.
