Schaefer Systems International, Inc., a leader in reusable packaging systems, automation and material handling systems, along with waste carts and technology, announced today that the company will produce face masks for essential employees amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Packaging Systems Division within SSI SCHAEFER is using its textile dunnage sewing capabilities and leveraging vendor relationships to quickly manufacturer masks for clients, retail distribution center employees, and waste collection workers within North America.

The production started this week in both Charlotte, NC and the San Louis Potosi, Mexico locations. “This is a great opportunity to help our communities and essential employees who provide much needed services every day. We applaud each and every one of them for their heroic efforts to keep the economy and the essential services going,” stated Andy Schumacher, Vice President of Packaging Systems Division for Schaefer Systems International, Inc. “This is truly a project that the entire SSI SCHAEFER team got behind and made it happen quickly along with our suppliers. We’re all happy to contribute and do our civic duty,” continued Schumacher.

The first prototypes were completed this week, but plans to produce as many as 1,000 masks per week are in the works. SSI SCHAEFER is well known for SCHAEFGUARD® custom dunnage packaging and supplies textile dunnage to automotive OEMs and other manufacturers within various industries.
