The membership of the Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) has approved its Board of Directors for 2012. The eight Board members will contribute their expertise and experience to help the Association further its mission of promoting the value and expansion of reusable packaging systems. The can¬di¬dates will serve two-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2012 and ending Dec. 31, 2014.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. These have been the three legs of the stool called sustainable packaging for about as long as I can remember. But these days it seems that only two of the three—reduce and recycle—are talked about all that much. So it’s refreshing to see recent reports confirming that reusable containers are alive and well.

An interview with RPA Board Member Rob Zachrich the new President of Fabri-Form Company a manufacturer of thermoformed plastic products for logistics (custom packaging, pallets, sleeve packs), work-in-process (totes, trays and freezer spacers) and for end products (custom components).
CABKAN is a reinforced plastic material developed by Cabka, supplier of one-way and reusable plastic pallets in St. Louis, MO. It has been created especially for manufacturing heavy-duty plastic pallets.
As part of its ongoing effort to build stronger working relationships with other key industry associations, the Reusable Packaging Association will host a Reusables Conference at the new MODEX show in Atlanta, GA, February 6 – 8, 2012.
Modern Materials Handling magazine interviewed two members of the RPA for an article about the role of reusables in helping a company meet sustainability initiatives. “Another way to keep material from going to the landfill is to use returnables and reusables. Reusable plastic bulk containers can save companies with a large shipping infrastructure in many industries millions of dollars annually, as well as help keep tons of cardboard out of the waste stream.
As the value of plastics and other materials used to create reusable packaging increases, more and more manufacturers are dealing with reusable asset theft. Food Manufacturing spoke with Bob Klimko, chairman of the Reusable Packaging Association (RPA), about the growth of the problem and how companies can prevent asset theft.
Jon Kalin of Rehrig Pacific was recognized for his many contributions to the RPA during his tenure as Chairman of the Board in 2010. He was recognized during the RPA’s Board of Directors Meeting on Oct. 26.
