Bielomatik, a manufacturer of plastic welding systems, has become the 50th member of the Reusable Packaging Association. Bielomatik designs and manufactures plastic welding systems used in the production of reusable plastic pallets. Its customers include RPA members ORBIS Corporation, Buckhorn Inc. and Rehrig Pacific.

The Postal Service has issued an all-points bulletin for the apprehension of its delivery tubs and pallets, no questions asked. The Postal Service spent nearly $50 million last year to replace equipment that has gone missing. Because of the financial crisis the USPS currently faces, it is a serious issue, and it can ill afford any kind of unnecessary expense. The equipment is clearly postal property and the agency wants it back.

As the value of plastics and other materials used to create reusable packaging increases, more and more manufacturers are dealing with reusable asset theft. Food Manufacturing spoke with Bob Klimko, chairman of the Reusable Packaging Association (RPA), about the growth of the problem and how companies can prevent asset theft.
