The winner was announced and the award was presented at PACK EXPO in Chicago. Herman Miller won the award for using reusable packaging for the shipping and handling of a component on a chair assembly line, saving the company $46,000 annually in material and labor.

Beverage-makers employ a variety of methods to get their products from the manufacturer or distributor into the retailers. But an otherwise smooth cycle can reach a speed bump when companies look for solutions that create less waste than one-way disposable delivery options.
At any given time, a manufacturer can likely tell you the quantity of bulk items available for processing, and a distributor can tell you the number of trucks it has on the road and the number in for repairs. However not every company can tell you how many reusable assets, including pallets and containers, they have out at retail stores, in the warehouse or waiting for repairs.
