Apply here.— Alpha Baking, a national distributor of fresh and frozen breads, rolls and buns with four plants and multiple depots across the United States, is testing a fully integrated asset tracking solution to determine its effectiveness in reducing bakery tray loss. Prior to the pilot, Alpha Baking, based in Chicago, experienced significant tray loss each year, with no visibility to where the loss was occurring. It partnered with The Kennedy Group and ORBIS Corporation to conduct a 9-month pilot using radio-frequency identification tag (RFID) technology to track trays and determine areas of tray loss within their supply chain.
Proprietary tracking technology employed by Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company, LLC), operator of the world’s first pallet rental service to provide lightweight, 100 percent recyclable plastic pallets, assisted the Virginia State Police in uncovering a large cache of misappropriated plastic pallets and containers at a pallet manufacturing and recycling firm operating in New Kent County, Virginia.

The Arizona legislature passed House Bill 2168, last week and is awaiting action in the Senate. HB 2168 would require companies buying more than 10 plastic or wood bulk-merchandise containers to record the name, addresses and telephone number of the seller, a description of the purchase and the license-plate number of the vehicle used to deliver the containers. Companies would also have to confirm the identity of the seller with a government-issued ID.
